Ficus lyrata (fiddle leaf fig) is a popular indoor tree from western Africa known for its huge, glossy, violin-shaped leaves. It thrives in bright, indirect light and needs a warm spot away from cold drafts. Let the top soil dry out between watering.

Light and Placement

  • Bright indirect light near an east-facing window works best.
  • Avoid harsh direct sun which can burn the leaves.
  • Turn the pot every few weeks so all sides get light.
  • Keep away from drafts and heaters.

    Watering and Soil

  • Water thoroughly, then let the top few centimeters of soil dry.
  • Never let it sit in water or root rot will happen.
  • Use well-draining soil mixed with perlite.
  • Wipe dust off leaves with a damp cloth so it can catch light.
